New Secretary General at the European Renewable Gas Registry (ERGaR)

Brussels, March 2021 – The Executive Board of the European Renewable Gas Registry is pleased to announce that Matthias Edel has been appointed as Secretary General of the association effective 01st March 2021.

This appointment represents an important milestone in the development of the association, bringing fresh energy and a new knowledge set to the role.

Since its creation in 2016, ERGaR has been dedicated to establishing an efficient, trustworthy and professional administrative system enabling the cross-border transfer and distribution of renewable gases in the interlinked European gas grids network.

The European energy sector is now undergoing a deep transformation to support the establishment of the zero carbon economy by 2050. The expansion in the deployment of renewable gases is an integral part of the EU’s policies and ERGaR’s Schemes will play an important role in reaching the targets that have been set.

Matthias Edel is a well-known and respected expert in the renewable gas sector, being responsible for the German Biogasregister of dena for many years and playing a central role in setting up bilateral cooperation with other European registries.

“We are very pleased to have such a competent and experienced person on board to contribute to ERGaR´s vision and to further develop ERGaR´s schemes”, said Jeppe Bjerg, president of ERGaR. “Matthias will take over the position of Secretary General from Attila Kovacs who has initiated and successfully established ERGaR from the organisation´s foundation up to now. We thank Attila for his fantastic contribution and excellent work in the past five years.”

At the ERGaR Secretariat, Mattias Edel will be assisted by Flore Belin, Deputy Secretary General and Policy Adviser working in the Brussels office.
