SUMMARY:Biogenic CO2/Carbon Certification: Towards a Circular Economy - Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A group of European organisations comprising the European Renewable Gas Registry (ERGaR)\, Eurogas\, European Biogas Association (EBA)\, Biomethane Industrial Partnership (BIP)\, CO2 Value Europe\, European Industrial Gases Association (EIGa)\, Energy Traders Europe\, ePure\, CertifHy\, Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE)\, Hydrogen Europe\, Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) and Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S) invite you to join a one-day workshop to discuss a new initiative on biogenic CO2 certification. \nBy 2050\, the European Union aims to achieve climate neutrality\, creating an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Biogenic CO2 will play a significant role in reaching this goal\, leading to a truly circular and more sustainable society. Biogenic CO2 refers to the carbon dioxide (CO2) resulting from the decomposition\, digestion\, or combustion of biomass or biomass-derived products. \nThis biogenic CO2 can find applications in various industries\, ranging from food and beverages to e-fuels or RFNBOs. It is essential to account for biogenic CO2\, establishing its source and ensuring its traceability for both producers and end-users/consumers to demonstrate its biogenic origin. This can be achieved by implementing a certification framework. Having such a framework in place can incentivize producers to capture Biogenic CO2 and provide proof of origin for end-users/consumers. \nTaking the above into account\, the group of associations is organising a kick-off event for the biogenic CO2 certification initiative. This will be a one-day workshop in Brussels to discuss different certification-related aspects. The event will feature several parallel sessions alongside a panel discussion. \nA detailed workshop agenda will be provided closer to the event date. The hybrid workshop is scheduled for 26 June\, and the physical part will be held in Brussels (Avenue Cortenbergh 100\, 1000 Brussels). Only the panel discussion will be held online\, while the workshops for the different topics to be discussed in detail will only take place in a physical setting in Brussels for this kick-off meeting. \nRegistration is possible via the following link\, and the deadline for registrations is 21st June. \nFor any inquiries\, please contact the Secretary-General of ERGaR\, Tim Hamers: tim.hamers@ergar.org
