An intriguing conversation unfolded at the REC Market Meeting, where our Secretary General, Tim Hamers, discussed sector coupling alongside Mariana Liakopoulou, Katrien Verwimp, and Daniel Arnesson.
There was a consensus that sector coupling will gain increasing significance in the future. Renewable gas can be utilised for electricity production during periods of low renewable energy generation (known as the Dunkelflaute), while renewable electricity can be employed in the production of gas or e-fuels.
It was agreed that the certification framework should facilitate these conversions, and ERGaR will actively support initiatives in this domain.
